Homework Training Course

To find out about Homework training VS Online Au Pair Training, prices involved in Homework training, locations, benefits and more, read the below information

What is Homework Training?

Homework training is a type of childcare course that is offered at some au pair agencies. It is a set of guidelines that will help you assist children with their homework on a day to day basis.

Homework training is generally more expensive than au pair training. Homework Training is also only three hours long which means you are paying more money per hour.

Price comparison… Homework Training VS Online Au Pair Training:

  • Price of Homework Training: R600 or more + Transport costs + Cost of food = Roughly R850 spent
  • Online Au Pair Training: R600 (cheaper option – no other costs involved because you learn on your phone, computer or ipad and you don’t have to drive anyway. You can learn in the comfort of your own home if you want)
  • Au pair training: R500 or more + Transport costs + Food for the day = Roughly R750 spent

Some things Homework Training teaches you:

  • How to Assist a Child
  • How to prepare an environment for the Child
  • How to Do research with a child
  • How to manage a difficult child
  • The do’s and don’ts during homework

Costs for those using public transport to get to Homework Training:

For those who are utilizing public transport, you might want to take a couple of things into consideration before booking Homework Training…

Homework Training costs between R650 and R800
Public transport costs can be anything between R100 – R300 (Those who may be using the train) which means up to this point, you have already forked out between R750 – R900 before you have even bought yourself lunch for the Homework Course

Costs For those who are using their own car to get to Homework Training:

  • If you are fortunate enough to have your own vehicle, you will put millage on your car as well as cause wear and tear on your tyres as you have to drive to the Homework Training course venue
  • You have to consider the cost of petrol – some au pairs have to use a significant amount of money on petrol driving to the Homework Training course (this isn’t always a financial option for some as au pairs tend to be young individuals just starting out in their careers and don’t have much disposable income)

Is Homework Training similar to Au Pair Training?

Yes! Homework training is very similar to au pair training. However, au pair training covers a wide variety of topics that are centered around children such as: how to encourage a child, how to do homework, how to manage angry outbursts, why children don’t eat their lunch and more!

Do I get lunch at the Homework Training?

Unfortunately even though you are paying a fair amount of money to the au pair agency for this course, lunch or any kind of food is not included in the price. This of course means you would need to buy or take your own lunch to the homework training which would cost you more money.

Free Homework Tips

Here are some tips to guide the way during homework time:

  1. Know the teachers — and what they’re looking for. Attend school events, such as parent-teacher conferences, to meet your child’s teachers. During this time, ask the teacher about their procedures, any learning hints and tips they may have for you and how the school works
  2. Set up a homework-friendly area. Make sure the children have a clean and tidy work space that is well lit up. Keep supplies — paper, pencils, glue, scissors — within reach. This prevents children having excuses to leave their homework station and allows the child to direct their full attention to their homework
  3. Schedule a regular study time. Some children work best in the afternoon, following a snack and play period; others may prefer to wait until after dinner.
  4. Help them make a plan. On heavy homework nights or when there is a large assignment to tackle, encourage your child to break up the work into manageable chunks. Create a work schedule for the night if necessary — and take time for a 15-minute break every hour, if possible. Learn about your child’s needs and adapt your teaching approach to suit their needs.
  5. Keep distractions to a minimum. This means no TV, loud music, or phone calls. (Occasionally, though, a phone call to a fellow classmate about an assignment can prove to be extremely beneficial to a point. Make sure the call is monitored and happens at the table in your presense. Thereafter, ensure the phone is switched t silent and is away from reach.)
  6. Make sure children do their own homework. They won’t learn if they don’t think for themselves and make their own mistakes. Parents can make suggestions and help with directions. But it’s a kid’s job to do the learning.
  7. Be a motivator and monitor. Ask about assignments, quizzes, and tests. Give encouragement, check completed homework, and make yourself available for questions and concerns.
  8. Set a good example. Do your children ever see you diligently balancing your budget or reading a book? Children are more likely to follow their parents?Au Pairs examples than their advice.
  9. Praise their work and efforts. Post an aced test or art project on the refrigerator. Mention academic achievements to relatives.
  10. If there are continuing problems with homework, get help. Talk about it with your child’s teacher. Some kids have trouble seeing the board and may need glasses; others might need an evaluation for a learning problem or attention disorder.
